Special Olympics

Last week, Grace participated in her first Special Olympics.  It was cute to see all of the kids so excited to be involved.  Grace and her little classmates did "events" like: red light/green light, a bean bag toss, racing across a tennis court, jumping from start to star, and throwing a ball at a target.  However, before any of the events started, there was a parade for the athletes.  It was held at a private school and the kids from the school were out in the bleachers cheering the participants on.  It was a little overwhelming for Grace at first but she eventually waved a little and blew some kisses.  It was also very overwhelming for me.  Emotionally that is.  I don't know what is wrong with me!  As soon as we pulled in to the school and I saw the sign for the Special Olympics, I started to cry.  Then, when I saw all the kids in the parade, I cried again.  And then, when they repeated the oath:
"Let me win.  But if I cannot win,
let me be brave in the attempt."
I cried again.  All Adam can say these days is, "Oh, mama!"  He jokes that I would cry over a Walmart opening.  If it was a Target opening, he might be right.  :-)  Anyway, Grace seemed to have a good time.  She was excited that Daddy was able to break away from work for a while to watch her.  And of course, Amelia Jane was a great cheerleader.  The only sad part of the day was that Grace kept signing 'brother' and would search the crowd for him.  We debated on taking Grant out of school but decided against it.  Maybe next year.  It was cute, Grant asked if Grace won.  We said that she did and he was SO excited for her.  "Way to go Grace!  I knew you could do it!" he exclaimed as he gave her a hug.  He gets the award for being the BEST.BROTHER.EVER!

So fun! I would be bawling too. I'm crying just reading about it. I love the motto. Oh my goodness. Hopefully the day recharged your batteries enough to deal with the school tantrums now in the horizon. Boo! Good luck with that one!

Yeah for Grace! My mom is one of the coaches for special olympics in her area. But she coaches junior high and high school.
